When You Finally Get to See the Work You Feel in Franklin, VA

I’m a teacher.

It’s what I do.

It’s what I was called to do.

Teaching is the space in which I feel most comfortable.

In this season of life, I teach differently.

There are a lot of early morning flights, with my duffel and carry-on in tow, taking me to places where people work every day to touch the lives of children and families.

Wherever they are, I will go and teach so that we can increase our capacity as service providers and, in turn, increase the capacity of the children and families we serve.

In this nontraditional teaching career, I often walk alone.

I travel into communities that welcome me, and we come together around the work.

I feel my work, but I don’t often see my work.

Every now and then, a kind village member gives me a glimpse of what they get to see.

Today, that glimpse arrived in a text message with photographs from a learning experience I shared with the wonderful people of The Children's Center in Virginia.

The pictures moved me.

As I looked at each photograph, I could feel the joy of the moment it captured.

Even as I was finally getting to see my work, I was feeling it all over again.

Each still image brought me right back to those moments of engagement.

What a gift to see the work I so often only get to feel.

Thank you, Father God, for creating a space for me to do what I was called to do.

My heart is filled with gratitude and I can’t wait to get back on the road again next month.

I have rested after an exciting school preservice season and me and my acorns are ready to spread love and care in the beautiful world of Head Start team members. ❤️🙏🏾🌰🌱🌳🥰
