When the Acorn Movement Took Legs in Hempstead, NY

This morning, I witnessed the most beautiful thing.❤️🥰
I watched the Acorn Movement take legs.
At the end of my signature keynote, we have an Acorn Commitment Ceremony where service providers make a commitment to the children they serve.
Typically, we use one tree representing the entire agency.
The Assistant Head Start Director of the Economic Opportunity Commission of Nassau County, Inc. in Hempstead, New York, had the brilliant idea to create one Acorn Commitment Tree for each of the agency’s eight centers.
Her team assembled all eight trees, lining four along each side of the auditorium.
During the ceremony, each service provider placed their commitment on the tree representing their own center.
Now, each tree will return to its respective center, where families will be invited to share their own commitments to helping our acorns grow into mighty, mighty oak trees.
One tree became eight.
One ceremony will continue inside eight centers.
Because of one brilliant idea and a collective mindset, the Acorn Movement will extend beyond the people who were in the room to include the families they serve.
That’s absolutely beautiful!
I watched the Acorn Movement take legs.
Then I watched it RUN.
Several service providers came up to me after our time together and asked,
“How can we support your work?”
My answer was simple.
Join the Acorn Movement. 🌰❤️
Subscribe to the newsletter, where I share reflections, tools, and strategies for engaging with children, families, and one another.
The greatest support I can have is for the Acorn Movement to be spoken about in rooms I have not yet entered.
The people are the arms, legs, eyes, ears, and feet of the Acorn Movement in every center, in every agency, working with every child and family who comes through Head Start doors.
Every child deserves a Top-Notch Village.
We’re on a mission to develop one Top-Notch Village member at a time…
One center at a time…
One agency at a time…
So we can support one child at a time. 🌰🌱🌳☀️❤️ #TopNotchVillages #TheAcornMovement
