CURATED CONVERSATIONS
Structured Listening and Thinking Sessions
Curated Conversations are structured listening sessions designed to help Dr. El better understand the perspectives, questions, needs, and concerns families and community members are navigating across the child- and family-serving ecosystem.
These conversations inform Dr. El’s advocacy training, speaking, and writing by ensuring her work accurately reflects the voices and experiences of the people she serves.
PURPOSE OF THESE CONVERSATIONS
Conversations create intentional space for families and community members—including educators, service providers, and administrators—to share the questions and realities they are encountering in their work and lived experiences.
The purpose of these conversations is for Dr. El to listen across perspectives and roles in order to:
-
understand the questions families are holding at different ages and stages
-
hear what service providers are seeing across systems and settings
-
identify patterns, gaps, and tensions between intention, language, and lived experience
This listening process supports Dr. El’s preparation for advocacy training, public speaking, and written work, ensuring she is responding to real needs rather than assumptions.
HOW THE CONVERSATIONS ARE STRUCTURED
Curated Conversations are organized by shared role or experience. Participants join conversations with others who hold similar perspectives, allowing for focused and meaningful dialogue.
Examples of curated conversation groups may include:
-
parents of children with autism
-
parents of young children
-
parents of children with disabilities transitioning into adulthood
-
early childhood educators and service providers
-
administrators and system leaders
Each conversation centers one group at a time.
Participants from different roles are not placed in the same session.
WHAT TO EXPECT
These conversations are facilitated group discussions held via Zoom. They are designed to surface questions, themes, and shared concerns rather than individual case details.
Participation is voluntary and limited.
Not all who express interest will be selected.
ABOUT RECORDING AND MEDIA USE
Curated Conversations are recorded.
Recordings serve two purposes:
-
To support reflection and synthesis as Dr. El listens for patterns across conversations
-
To capture Dr. El’s engagement in real time, which may be used as media content for educational and professional purposes
If excerpts are shared publicly, they will center Dr. El’s responses, reflections, or synthesized insights, not individual participant stories or identities.
All participants will be informed of recording and consent expectations in advance.
BOUNDARIES AND CLARITY
Curated Conversations are a listening and engagement space. They are not intended to provide individual guidance, consultation, coaching, or ongoing support.
Participation does not establish a professional or service relationship.
